Immunogenicity of ligands

Ligand immunogenicity is an important factor in BioProcess chromatography. Rapid clearance and no immunogenicity of BAC’s CaptureSelect^® ligands is found as tested is mice and primates.

In this paper by Cortez et al an immunogenicity study in mice is described; no antibody or cellular response against the injected VHH fragment (nanobody, cAb-Lys3) is found. Since the monovalent VHH fragment (low MW) is rapidly cleared by the kidney the serum half-life is about 50 minutes.
